One evening, when my daughter Uma Kalina was 2, we were sitting by a fireplace surrounded by family. Uma was lying on my lap, looking up to the night sky. Suddenly, she said, ‘There! I come from there!’ This touched me deeply and when Surina Mariana, the artist who created the images for this website, sent me her draft of ‘Birth’, I knew she had captured the essence of birth I seek to convey.
When in labour, the mother passes thresholds and gateways she has never known. Even if she is well-prepared. She has to let a part of her die to go out, fetch her child and bring her Earthside.
I am not here to tell you birth will be easy or painless or perfect. I am here to equip you with tools to meet yourself in your strongest power and deepest vulnerability. I am here to walk along with you to Birthland and for me this is the biggest honour and blessing.
I support Birth Diversity.
